Layne Verbeek

Layne Verbeek is a Toronto-based artist who works with kiln formed glass to harness glass’ predictable qualities to create unexpected forms of glass sculpture that often lead to moments of surprise in the viewer. Layne has a particular focus on creating “motion” in his work by developing unique approaches to casting carefully balanced mixes of transparent and opaque glass. Kiln-forming also allows him to render glass in unexpected ways; such as his unique technique of making glass that looks like stone or granite.

Layne is a member of the Al Green Sculpture Studio and has studied various glass-making techniques at the Corning Glass Museum Studio, Pittsburgh Glass Center and the Oatka School of Glass. Layne won the Founding Chairman’s Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in 2017 and his work can be found in Canadian and US galleries.
