Lawrence Morton

Based in Toronto, Lawrence Morton creates luminous colour field paintings that explore light, atmosphere, and quiet contemplation.

He works deliberately on several pieces at once, building up multiple transparent layers of oil paint over weeks and months. As each layer settles, the colours interact to produce subtle, shifting depths of light. Morton considers his work a sanctuary from the demands of everyday life—a quiet space where time slows down, inviting viewers into a moment of reflection.

Morton balances his studio practice with time spent outdoors walking with his family and dogs, reading, and playing the piano—enthusiastically, if not particularly well.
